State Budget 2018
As with all state budgets there is supportive and critical comment made. Headline items seem to be an increase in revenue thanks to increased resource royalties and a focus on further infrastructure. Our understanding, however, is that no money has been allocated for increasing the National Park estate. The government is to be commended for environmental initiatives such as the re- introduction of land clearing legislation, ending our love affair with one use plastic bags and introducing a waste levy. With funding initiatives timing is always important. We believe the timing is now right to make bold advances in the extent of the National Park estate and its management. An opportunity exists to show Visionary leadership in an ambitious and well funded Protected Area Strategy which is to be finalized in this term of government.
