Tamborine Bush Volunteers

The Tamborine Bush Volunteers (TBV) was formed in March 1988 to work with Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPW) rangers on park maintenance in Tamborine National Park.

The Volunteers meet on the first Saturday of each month except in the month of January.

The aims of the group are to support the Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPW) staff to accomplish their role of conserving the natural and cultural resources in Tamborine National Park.

Volunteers can participate in three capacities, all of which will be addressing maintenance tasks:

  • Involvement on a casual basis where volunteers will assist QPW staff with routine tasks.
  • Involvement on a project basis where volunteers will be performing tasks that QPW staff would not otherwise be doing due to a lack of resources.
  • Involvement with service and community groups by adopting a park or work project.

All new projects and initiatives undertaken by the Tamborine Bush Volunteers are planned in association with Queensland Parks and Wildlife staff.

To join the Tamborine Bush Volunteers contact Len Lowry on telephone (07) 33557288, mobile 0428335572, email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it or postal address 15 Franciscea Street, Everton Hills, 4053.

Stradbroke Island Management Organisation Inc.

SIMO (Stradbroke Island Management Organisation) was formed in 1978 by island residents and visitors to stop a proposed bridge from the mainland. Since then SIMO has been active in fighting to maintain the island's special qualities and low-key way of life. Its members share environmental concern for the sustainable management of the Island's diverse and scientifically significant flora and fauna, as well as for the Island’s resources such as minerals and water. SIMO currently monitors sandmining on the Island, and water extraction from it, with reference to various pieces of Government legislation.

SIMO takes special interest in Blue Lake National Park which has Aboriginal cultural significance and surrounds Blue Lake - an excellent example of a true window lake, that is possibly the deepest window lake in Queensland at approximately 11.4m deep. The sand track walk into Blue Lake National Park is through tall gums and has elevated views of Blue Lake, and sometimes fauna tracks of wallaby, goanna or koala, nearby on the sand.

For more info about Nth Stradbroke Is, SIMO’s book ‘North Stradbroke Island’, 2nd Edition (is blue, and has a jellyfish on the cover) is available from the Qld Museum and the Museum of Brisbane in the Brisbane City Hall.
