About

Our Mission

To promote the preservation, expansion, good management and presentation of National Parks and the Protected Area Estate in Queensland and to ensure access to them is appropriate.

Who We Are

NPAQ is a non government, non party political, private organisation. We campaign for more National Parks and Protected Area Estate across Queensland and in order to do this, we liaise with politicians and government members as well as key stakeholders such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS).

NPAQ defends National Parks and your right to have them. For more information, contact the Office (07) 3367 0878 or send an email to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

NPAQ plays a key role in lobbying for the preservation of existing National Parks in their natural condition and also for the reservation of new areas identified as deserving National Park status. We have been pursuing this agenda since our inception is 1930, and indeed, can rightfully claim to have participated in one form or another in the establishment of some sixty percent of the current Queensland Estate.

This does not mean that the current protected estate is adequate – far from it when compared to other states, it is woefully under representative of important and significant areas of biodiversity and cultural significance. Much still needs to be done to preserve our cultural heritage.

The NPAQ also encourages people of all ages and families to enjoy and appreciate our National Parks and other wilderness areas. National Parks are recognised as places where people can heal their bodies and minds and enjoy what nature has to offer.

Being a member of NPAQ is a great way to meet other people who are interested in the environment and who like to enjoy the “great outdoors”.

NPAQ has an active calendar which brings members together to enjoy our parks through bushwalking, camping, boat trips, guest speakers and a range of social activities.

We have members of all ages and all interests, who participate as little or as much as they wish in the Association's activities. Simply by being a member of the NPAQ you are lending your support to the advocacy process and protection of Queensland's National Parks. During trips, outings and social occasions you will have the opportunity to learn about Queensland's Protected Estate and many of our members will eagerly share their extensive knowledge.

The Executive Coordinator and office staff run the advocacy and membership programs, overseen by a Council elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Individual committees are responsible for running different aspects of the NPAQ's work such as Outings, Promotions, the NPA News, Membership, Revegetation and Strategic Planning.

NPAQ is part of the National Parks Australia Council a network of state-based community organisations seeking protection of natural areas.
